Gentlemen,
Great podcast… and so close to muh nears and dears. 😉
My top four SciFi films…
4. Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) – Not a perfect Star Trek movie, but lots of high-concept sci-fi that blew my 12 yr old mind in December of ’79.
3. Interstellar (2014) – The 2001 for the modern age. Loved it’s adherence to science and physics… higher dimensions.
2. Planet of the Apes (1968) – Great social commentary and one of the best endings in cinematic history.
1. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1969) – Kubrick & Clarke… ‘Nuff said.
But wait, there’s more… the stuff you guys mentioned plus The Black Hole, George Pal’s War of the Worlds and The Time Machine, Soylent Green, The Omega Man, Logan’s Run, Ray Harryhausen’s First Men on the Moon, Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, Blade Runner and BR: 2049, Ex Machina, Arrival, Moon, Under The Skin, The Day The Earth Stood Still, Solaris, Robocop, The Martian, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), etc.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture is up there for me too. The soundtrack and sound design alone is magic.
Your list is epic!
